Shore and Sea

The extraordinary in the everyday

Inspired during a visit to the Sussex coast, these abstract and semi-abstract coastal acrylics were created during the summer of 2020. In my art, I show appreciation and wonder for the extraordinary in the every day and the often overlooked. Inspiration appears from nature’s seemingly disorganised elements that make up our environment and naturally create harmony and connection.

This series, painted on wooden panels with acrylic paint, celebrates the resilience, adaption and beauty of the shore and sea. Sea glass, shells, sand and stone have shifted with the tides for millennia; each tide they are a little more worn and displaced but still present and, I think, wonderful. The seas and tides may, immediately, seem the same, but each of my paintings salute the subtle, unique changes in the ‘every day’.

My art celebrates commonplace beauty and colour in nature. Simple lines, irregular patterns, erratic textures, and the serendipity that binds them together create unique, rich harmonies where you would least expect them. Simple pleasures.
